At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. First aid training must be relevant for workers caring for young children. Childminders, and an assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current paediatric first aid certificate.

Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR) - Compulsory section
If you look after or deal with children in your job, as a childminder in nurseries, schools or clubs you must be registered with Ofsted - the Office for Standards in Education. Our paediatric first aid course is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets all the Ofsted requirements and Department for Education and Skills (DfES) requirements.
Intended audience
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with: • An emergency situation • Chronic or sudden paediatric illness • Paediatric injury Note: This qualification fulfils Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).
Anyone working with children, staff in leisure centres or other activity settings such as sports centres, clubs, Scouts, Brownies, Sunday school or just those wishing to further their Continued Professional Development (CPD) can take this course.
How to Get a Paediatric First Aid Certificate
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment and multiple question exams throughout the two days. Students reaching the required standards are awarded a certificate ‘ Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid’, valid for 3 years. The paediatric first aid certificate is also acceptable as evidence for an NVQ in Childcare and Education.

Course Duration
2 Days, 7 hours per day
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a
minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
Due to the practical nature of this course, Learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g.
trousers and flat footwear.
Relationship with other related qualifications
The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF):
• Contains 1 unit that also appears as Unit 1 (Emergency Paediatric First Aid) of the QA Level 3 Award in
Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
• Can be transferred to other qualifications under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) towards achievement of
that qualification providing it is achieved within its registration period.
Progression
The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) may be used towards other qualifications at the same and
higher level, plus aid career progression in a relevant profession.
